What is David Johnson’s fantasy football status, DFS price for Week 14?
David Johnson and the Arizona Cardinals got shellacked last week against the Los Angeles Rams to the tune of 34-7. The Cardinals were forced to abandon the run early, so Johnson failed to make a major impact in the game. He totaled only 15 rushing yards on four carries, and caught only two passes for an additional nine yards. More importantly, Kenyan Drake failed to run away with his touches, totaling only 31 yards on 13 carries and catching two passes for 20 yards.
This week, the Cardinals face off against the Pittsburgh Steelers and the NFL’s 4th-best defense against opposing running backs. It makes since then why Johnson’s Week 14 DFS salary is at an all-time low at only $4,200.
What is David Johnson’s fantasy football status, DFS price for Week 13?
David Johnson and the Arizona Cardinals had a bye week last week, so hopefully it was another week for Johnson to get healthy. His Week 13 DFS salary is only $4,600, a season low for 2019, due in no small part to the presence of Kenyan Drake mudding the water in the Cardinals backfield.
Johnson and the Arizona Cardinals come out of their bye to face the division rival Los Angeles Rams, ranked only 11th against opposing running backs in 2019. This week will be incredibly important for what Johnson’s future in Arizona will be the rest of this season.
What is David Johnson’s fantasy football status, DFS price for Week 12?
David Johnson was healthy by all indications last week when the Arizona Cardinals faced the San Francisco 49ers. The team announced the recently acquired Kenyan Drake was going to be the starter, but it was shocking that Johnson failed to log a single carry all game.
Johnson and the Arizona Cardinals have a bye this week, so if there’s by chance a lingering injury which has kept Johnson from taking on a full workload, hopefully the extra rest this week will do him some good.
What is David Johnson’s fantasy football status, DFS price for Week 11?
David Johnson returned to the field in Week 10 after missing the previous two contests for the Arizona Cardinals, but those who inserted him into their DFS lineups last week would have probably preferred Johnson miss the game all together. Johnson finished with five carries for only two yards, but actually ended up with negative fantasy points after losing a fumble.
Johnson’s Week 11 DFS salary hasn’t been announced yet as the Cardinals won’t play until Sunday afternoon when they travel to San Francisco to face one of the NFL’s best defenses. It’s going to be a tough matchup for Johnson on Sunday, but now in addition to fighting the opposing defense, he’s also going to be fighting against Kenyan Drake for touches in the Arizona backfield as Drake amassed double the carries as DJ last week.
What is David Johnson’s fantasy football status, DFS price for Week 10?
David Johnson missed his second game in a row, with the Arizona Cardinals facing a short week against one of the NFL’s best defenses in the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday Night Football. It looked like a recipe for disaster for the Cardinals’ back, but maybe we judged too quickly. Kenyan Drake, in his first game with the Cardinals after a surprising trade from the Miami Dolphins, rushed for 110 yards and a touchdown against the 49ers and added another 52 yards on four receptions.
A tough matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the NFL’s 2nd-best rush defense along with the appearance of Drake in the backfield are likely the primary culprits for Johnson’s Week 10 DFS salary to drop to a season-lose of $5,700, a whopping $2,000 less than where it was to start the 2019 season.
What is David Johnson’s fantasy football status, DFS price for Week 9?
After missing practice the majority of the week, it wasn’t a surprise that Johnson failed to suit up for the Cardinals against the New Orleans Saints. Add in the fact that the Cardinals just traded for Kenyan Drake, and it appears the Cardinals could be expecting Johnson to miss additional time. Now with a short week ahead of them, it would seem unlikely Johnson is ready to go for this Thursday night. Hosting the undefeated San Francisco 49ers and that talented defensive front, even if Johnson were to be ready to go, he likely wouldn’t find much success running the ball.
Because Johnson and the Cardinals have a short week on Thursday Night Football in Week 9, it is a Showdown contest and prices will be available later in the week.
What is David Johnson’s fantasy football status, DFS price for Week 8?
Johnson’s Week 8 salary takes a massive hit, dropping $1,400 to $6,400. Despite being active for the game Sunday after showing up on the injury report all week, Johnson was only given one rushing attempt for two yards last week against the New York Giants. And that’s not to say that the Arizona Cardinals rushing attack wasn’t able to get going — back-up Chase Edmonds rushed for 126 yards and three touchdowns.
An injury concern and limited usage from last week are only part of the problem. The Cardinals have also brought in Jay Ajayi and Spencer Ware in for tryouts, which isn’t a good sign for Johnson’s availability. But even if Johnson were to play in Week 8, he has a tough matchup against the New Orleans Saints, who have gone 33 straight games without allowing a 100-yard rusher.
What is David Johnson’s fantasy football status, DFS price for Week 7?
Johnson’s Week 7 salary increases for the third week in a row, this time $200 to $7,800, making him the fourth-most expensive running back in daily fantasy this week. Last week, Johnson’s yardage total wasn’t quite where fans expect as he totaled just 102 total yards, his lowest since Week 3, but he also scored a touchdown for the first time since Week 3, so that definitely helped his scoring.
In Week 7, Johnson faces the New York football Giants, who have been surprisingly solid against the run this season, ranked sixth-best in 2019. Johnson’s involvement in the passing game (4 games with 6 or more receptions) gives him a high floor in daily fantasy, and if he can match his typical yardage numbers in the same game he scores a touchdown, he could have exceptional numbers this week.
What is David Johnson’s fantasy football status, DFS price for Week 6?
Johnson’s Week 6 salary increases to $7,600, a modest $100 increase from Week 5, still the fifth-most expensive running back in daily fantasy this week. Johnson continues to be remarkably consistent if not slightly underwhelming in 2019. Last week, DJ racked up over 150 total yards of offense for the first time this season, but failed to find the end zone for the second week in a row.
In Week 6, Johnson faces the dumpster fire that is the Atlanta Falcons defense. In Week 5, the Houston Texans dropped a Fifty Burger against the Dirty Birds, so Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals offense will be licking their chops as they prepare for Sunday. The good for news for DJ is that he’s not the type of running back to cede goal line touches for his offense. If the Cardinals are able to find success moving the ball against the Falcons, the touchdowns for Johnson should come.
What is David Johnson’s fantasy football status, DFS price for Week 5?
Johnson’s Week 5 salary increases to $7,500, a $700 increase from Week 4, as the fifth-most expensive running back in daily fantasy this week. Last week, Johnson had his second game with over 100 offensive yards, finishing with only 40 rushing yards on 11 carries but 99 receiving yards on 8 receptions. Johnson failed to find the end zone against the Seattle defense, but his continued usage in the passing game has to be encouraging. What was most encouraging was his efficiency - Johnson’s average rushing yards per attempt and receiving yards per reception were his highest since his electric start in Week 1.
In Week 5, Johnson has an incredibly favorable matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals which currently rank 30th out of 32 teams in the NFL against opposing running backs. It’s a small sample size, but the Johnson has scored a touchdown in both of the even-numbered games this week, so if the trend continues, Johnson could be in for a big week against a struggling defense.
What is David Johnson’s fantasy football status, DFS price for Week 4?
Johnson’s Week 4 salary is holding firm at $6,800 from last week, when a last minute touchdown saved an otherwise disappointing performance. Johnson has only passed the 100-yards-from-scrimmage threshold once this season, and has a combined 53 total yards of offense in the other two weeks combined. Johnson has been fortunate enough to score a touchdown in all three games so far this season, so if Johnson can score a touchdown this week against Seattle, he could produce solid value as a flex-type play. Last week, Alvin Kamara torched the Seattle defense with 161 yards of offense and two scores in Seattle, so Johnson’s ceiling is still fairly high - especially when you consider the fact that the Cardinals are playing at home in Phoenix.
What is David Johnson’s fantasy football status, DFS price for Week 3?
Johnson enters Week 3 with a $6,800 salary at DraftKings, ninth-highest among all running backs this week, as his Johnson’s cost continues to go down following his production. Last week, Johnson finished with only 14 rushing yards on seven attempts and a touchdown and one reception for zero yards. The touchdown saved an otherwise poor performance, but the possibility of Johnson re-aggravating a wrist injury which forced Johnson to miss several series is the bigger concern moving forward. He faces the Carolina Panthers.
What is David Johnson’s fantasy football status, DFS price for Week 2?
Johnson enters Week 2 with a $7,100 salary at DraftKings, fifth-highest among all running backs this week, despite a $600 drop from last week. Johnson had 82 rushing yards and 55 receiving yards along with a receiving touchdown. Unfortunately for DJ and the rest of the Cardinals offense, they are slated to face the Baltimore Ravens in Week 2, so it’s possible - if not likely - the Cardinals get down and stay down on the scoreboard. The good news for Johnson is he remained involved in the passing game, catching six of seven targets for 55 yards and touchdown in Week 1, so hopefully DJ can put up solid numbers in Week 2, even if only in garbage time.
David Johnson 2019 fantasy football preview
The Arizona Cardinals’ offense struggled in 2018, and with it, so went the production of workhorse back David Johnson. With the addition of Kyler Murray and a new offensive scheme behind Kliff Kingsbury, Johnson’s 2018 numbers (1,386 total yards and 10 touchdowns) should be considered his floor.
The Cardinals’ offense is not guaranteed to be leaps and bounds better than 2018, and the defense could regress in 2019, but that’s not necessarily a damper on Johnson’s 2019 outlook. While the offense might be forced to pass more often than not now, this only serves to potentially increase Johnson’s numbers, even if only in garbage time.
Johnson was given the highest grade among all running backs on receiver routes according to Pro Football Focus in 2018, ahead of names like Alvin Kamara, Tevin Coleman and Tarik Cohen. Unlike that trio, there isn’t another running back in the Arizona backfield to snipe touchdowns or between-the-tackles rushes like there is in New Orleans (Latavius Murray), San Francisco (Matt Breida) or Chicago (David Montgomery).
What is David Johnson’s fantasy football status, DFS price for Week 1?
Johnson enters Week 1 with a $7,700 salary at DraftKings, sixth highest among all running backs behind the expected group of Ezekiel Elliott, Saquon Barkley, Kamara, Christian McCaffrey and Todd Gurley. Johnson faces a Detroit Lions defensive front that was practically middle-of-the-road (14th in the NFL) against opposing fantasy backs last year. With a new rookie quarterback, Johnson could be Kyler Murray’s new favorite check-down and security blanket on route to a solid back-back 2019 campaign.
