Diontae Johnson looking like waiver wire gold after Week 4 MNF

Steelers rookie wide receiver Diontae Johnson is officially on a roll with Mason Rudolph. We break down the Week 5 fantasy football waiver wire implications after a strong Week 4 performance.

The Pittsburgh Steelers thumped the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 4, beating them 27-3 on Monday Night Football. After an atrocious first quarter of football to open the game, the Steelers offense got going in the second quarter, and never looked back. Mason Rudolph finished the game with 229 yards and two touchdowns, and James Conner led the way with 125 total yards and a touchdown.

One standout performance belonged to rookie wide receiver Diontae Johnson. He was targeted six times in the game and caught all six for 77 yards and a touchdown. In Rudolph’s two games starting in place of Ben Roethlisberger, Johnson has caught nine passes out of 12 targets for 129 yards and two touchdowns. In that same time, JuJu Smith-Schuster has six receptions for 96 yards and a touchdown.

Fantasy analysis: JuJu is going to get plenty of targets the remaining 12 games of the season. Johnson may be breaking out, but I would bet good money he will not finish the season as the Steelers’ top producing receiver. That being said, there’s clearly value to be had for a guy costing $4,400 at DraftKings and owned in 6.2 percent of ESPN’s traditional fantasy leagues.

The Steelers host the Baltimore Ravens in Week 5. Baltimore remains a talented defense, but has scuffled through the first four weeks of the season. They’ve given up the tenth most points to wide receivers, which makes them a potentially enticing matchup this weekend. He’s a strong value proposition with your Week 5 fantasy football waiver wire priority.
