What to do with Sony Michel in Week 6 fantasy football [UDPATE]

It took a while, but Sony Michel finally made due on his high volume of carries. He’s now set up well heading into Thursday night vs. the Giants. We break down your fantasy football options.

Sony Michel start/sit update, 4:04 p.m.

The New England Patriots are expected to deactivate Rex Burkhead for Week 6 due to his foot injury, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Burkhead did not play in Week 5 with the same injury. He practiced all three days this week, but was listed as limited. Given the Patriots heavy favorite status in this game, it’s not shocking he’ll get the day off. Burkhead got a mix of rush and receiving opportunities in previous weeks. Michel will take on more carries while James White will take on more in the passing game.

It took now one, not two, not three, not four! Wait, it took four, yeah — FOUR games for Sony Michel to finally turn in a decent fantasy football performance. In yet another blowout win for the Patriots, Michel saw 16 carries for 91 yards and a TD. Perhaps the most shocking development in New England’s trouncing of Washington was Michel getting three receptions for 32 yards, nearly half the amount of receptions he had all last season. With the Patriots dealing with a multitude of injuries on offense, the stars may be aligning for Michel to have a huge night.

Fantasy Football Analysis, New England Patriots RB Sony Michel

First let’s go over the Patriots’ injury report. So far we know that WR Phillip Dorsett (hamstring) has been ruled out. RB Rex Burkhead and WRs Julian Edelman and Josh Gordon are both questionable. Now, it wouldn’t shock anyone if Bill Belichick feels the Pats have plenty to get past the Giants at home without all three of those guys. If Burkhead is out, we should see Michel get a few more targets in the passing game. Even if Burkhead plays, if one of Edelman and Gordon is out (or both), that’s more targets. What I’m getting at is we should see Michel used in the passing game — at least a little bit — again this week.

But all that aside, the Giants line up as a great matchup and the script is perfect. New York has allowed a healthy 130 rushing yards per game this season. New England is favored heavily and is at home on a short week, which I’d say favors the Patriots and hurts the Giants defense overall. If it’s a blowout, Michel should see around 15-20 carries again in a great spot to potentially reach the end zone twice. What all this means is you’re playing Sony Michel this week.
