The San Francisco 49ers dropped some surprising news on Friday in advance of their Week 6 matchup with the Los Angeles Rams. Tight end George Kittle was added to the injury report on Friday due to a groin injury, and is listed as questionable for Sunday.

He was not on the injury report Wednesday or Thursday, and was listed as limited on Friday. This would suggest the injury popped up on Friday. Head coach Kyle Shanahan did say he expects Kittle to be able to play on Sunday, according to team reporter Keiana Martin.

Fantasy football analysis, 49ers TE George Kittle

The 49ers have been ravaged by injuries, losing fullback Kyle Juszczyk and right tackle Mike McGlinchey to injuries. Both are expected to miss the next four to six weeks, which impacts the run game. Kittle’s injury adds another question to the ground game with his underrated blocking, but obviously is a big deal for fantasy owners as well.

Kittle found the end zone in Week 5 for the first time this season, putting up six receptions for 70 yards. He’s been quietly consistent, and while his numbers haven’t matched his monstrous 2018, they’ve been solid nonetheless.

A groin injury is concerning in general, but also because of the risk of aggravating it running down the field. The 49ers do not play until 4:05 p.m. on Sunday, so fantasy owners will need to keep an eye out for the pre-game injury news from Ian Rapoport and Adam Schefter. The 49ers backup tight ends are Ross Dwelley and Levine Toilolo. Neither has any fantasy value if they start.
