Patrick Peterson returns from suspension to boost Cardinals secondary

The Cardinals get All Pro cornerback Patrick Peterson back from suspension. We break down the fantasy football implications heading into Week 7.

The Arizona Cardinals have won two straight to improve to 2-3-1, and they head into Week 7 getting a critical reinforcement to their defense. Cornerback Patrick Peterson returns to action following as six-game suspension for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy.

The news comes amidst a report from Adam Schefter that at least three teams have reached out to the Cardinals about trading the All Pro cornerback. There were rumors Peterson wanted out last year, but that discussion ended quickly. The team has shut down trade offers in the past, and there is no indication they plan on trading the 29-year old cornerback.

The Cardinals defense has struggled against the pass during Peterson’s absence. They entered Week 6 ranked 27th in pass defense efficiency, and have given up the fourth most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks.

This week they face Daniel Jones and the New York Giants. It’s been a rough couple weeks for the Giants, who lost wide receiver Sterling Shepard (concussion) and tight end Evan Engram (knee) to injuries. They’re hoping to get Saquon Barkley back this week, and will look for improvements from Shepard and Engram heading into Sunday’s game.

The Giants are showing some progress under Daniel Jones, but this represents a potentially juicy matchup for Peterson in his return from suspension.
