Rumor surfaces suggesting Trent Williams to Browns could happen

The Cleveland Browns offensive line stinks and they might be in the market for an upgrade. We break down the fantasy implications of a Trent Williams trade rumor.

Washington has been insistent they have no interest in trading disgruntled offensive tackle Trent Williams, but with the trade deadline approaching, that position might be changing. Browns reporter Steve Doerschuk tweeted on Tuesday evening that he is, “[h]earing Trent Williams should be on Browns roster quite soon.”

Some ironically describe it as “oozing more with rumor than it is dripping with hard news,” but it’s worth noting. Doerschuk doesn’t have a significant track record in this regard, but crazier sources have broken rumors in the past. The NFL trade deadline is two weeks from today at 4 p.m. on October 29th, so we’ll find out in the next two weeks if this is legit or BS.

Fantasy football analysis, Browns offense

The Browns offensive line is in serious need of an upgrade, and Williams would be a mammoth upgrade for them. The line ranks 19th in adjusted line yards and 24th in adjusted sack rate at Football Outsiders. Baker Mayfield is struggling on his own, but poor offensive line play is not helping.

The line needs more than just a left tackle, but adding an anchor like Williams would be a big help. It would offer some upgrade to fantasy weapons across the offense, and put the team in better position to make a run at the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC North. Cleveland is tied with Pittsburgh at 2-4 and sits two games back of Baltimore. The questions now are 1) if they actually make something happen, and 2) what the cost is.
