Twitter doctors have to be taken with a certain grain of salt, but based on the video that appeared to show the trainer popping something back into place, the early diagnosis by medical folks watching the game is a dislocated kneecap. There are a variety of treatment options. As Jene Bramel noted, Matthew Stafford missed four weeks in 2009 with a similar injury. It’s too early to tell, but it’s worth noting while the Chiefs doctors sort this out. Mahomes will get an MRI Friday morning to get a better handle on any ligament damage.

The Kansas City Chiefs are officially in trouble. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes ran a quarterback sneak midway through the second quarter of Week 7 Thursday Night Football, and he appears to have injured his knee, as opposed to what was initially speculated as aggravating an ankle injury. The team brought out the cart, but he was able to walk off under his own power. He is now in the locker room getting his knee looked at.

Matt Moore has taken over at quarterback. He signed with the Chiefs in late August and made an appearance in Week 1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was 0-for-1 in his brief appearance. In his first drive in this game, Moore handed the ball off twice and threw a pass incomplete. The Chiefs settled for a field goal to take a 13-6 lead.

UPDATE: The Chiefs have ruled Patrick Mahomes OUT with a knee injury. FOX sideline reporter Erin Andrews said after Mahomes was ruled out that was in the x-ray room for no more than about two minutes before the team ruled him out the rest of the game. This is obviously a huge issue across the roster. Prior to his one snap in Week 1, backup Matt Moore had not attempted a pass since 2017.
