If you paid up for D/ST options in Week 6, you didn’t get your money’s worth. There was a lot of value on the board, and those solid options came though with more points per dollar. Week 7 has some strong options to pay up for back on the board, but there are also some spots you’ll want to avoid.
Spending salary on an expensive D/ST that doesn’t score points is one of the worst ways to waste your salary cap. Here are three D/ST plays that I think are overvalued on the Week 7 main slate, in no particular order. Salaries via DraftKings.
Jaguars ($3,500) at CIN
The Jags D/ST had 23 total DKFP in the last two games Jalen Ramsey played in, and then scored 13 total DKFP in its last three games. The Jacksonville defense just isn’t good, and even against the Bengals, isn’t worth paying up this high for on the road. Ravens D/ST scored just 5.0 DKFP at home against the Bengals in Week 6, and is a pretty comparable unit to a Ramsey-less Jags D/ST.
Texans ($3,000) at IND
Even with AFC South games generally trending towards the under, Texans D/ST is just too expensive on the road here. This is an overreaction to the 31-24 victory in KC, where the Texans scored 5.0 DKFP. But not its salary jumps $900, heading into another road game. The Colts are coming off a bye, and actually scored 10 DKFP in KC just a week earlier. The value is on the other side of this matchup when it comes to D/ST plays.
Seahawks ($2,800) vs. BAL
This isn’t “The Legion of Boom” anymore, so don’t get tricked into rostering Seahawks D/ST at its cheapest price of the season. Seattle’s actually averaging just 5.7 DKFP at home this season, and will face a Ravens offense full of explosive weapons in Week 7. Baltimore isn’t very good on the defensive side of the ball either, which could lead to a lot of points in this game. Lamar Jackson’s ability to run the ball limits the upside for Seattle to get sacks, which its been poor at to begin with — registering nine sacks against the Bengals and Cardinals, and just one in four other games combined.
