Bad news out of Cincinnati. The Bengals announced Wednesday they have placed wide receiver John Ross on the injured reserve list due to a sternoclavicular injury suffered during the team’s Week 4 Monday Night Football loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Ross went down late in the game with the shoulder injury after catching three passes for 36 yards. He had emerged this season while A.J. Green has been sidelined with an ankle injury. Ross goes on IR with 16 receptions for 328 yards and three touchdowns. He has been quiet the past two weeks as the Bengals have scuffled along, but had dominated in the first two weeks.

Fantasy football analysis of Bengals wide receiver John Ross

There is no timeline yet for A.J. Green’s return from his ankle injury. This leaves the Bengals with Tyler Boyd and Auden Tate as their top two receivers. Boyd leads the team in receptions with 27 and has been Andy Dalton’s favorite target. It has made him a strong PPR receiver, but less so for standard leagues. Tate emerged as a presence the past two weeks with 10 receptions for 138 yards. He stands to benefit with Ross’ injury, but the Bengals offense is growing abysmal enough that he is not yet worth starting until we see what comes of it this weekend.
