What to do with Jared Goff in Week 7 fantasy football

The Rams quarterback had his worst game ever last week against San Francisco, passing for a measly 78 yards. We take a look at Jared Goff’s fantasy value entering his Week 7 matchup against Atlanta.

Do you remember when Jared Goff was a middling quarterback back in his rookie and sophomore seasons? Well, he never had a game as bad as the one against San Francisco last weekend. Only once (2018 Week 14, 1.5 FP) has Goff finished a game with a lower score than his last 3.9 fantasy points. In fact, it was his worst real-life performance ever: Goff could only complete 13 of 24 passes for 78 and even lost a fumble. Basically, he only lacked an interception to enter into the annals of history. So, not looking good, uh? Well, being fair, it’s not all this murky around Goff. Goff had passed for 912 yards (!) in his last two games combined while pleasing his fantasy owners to the tune of 33.9 and 23.9 fantasy points in those games.

I have to assume last week was just a fluke and the product of facing a great defense. On top of that, the Rams were missing Todd Gurley, and Brandin Cooks was cleared from the concussion protocol two days prior to the game. The performance is inexcusable coming from someone who made it to the Super Bowl earlier this year, but still. And Goff could be thankful he wasn’t intercepted, as he has thrown seven picks already (to go with seven passing touchdowns). The only thing saving Goff’s season in fantasy football so far has been the huge volume he’s accruing. He’s thrown the second-most passes and that has allowed him to have the third-highest number of completions in the league, and the seventh-most passing yards.

And volume is precisely what Goff will be able to amass this weekend once again. First of all, a rebound is coming. There is just no way he puts up a dud two games in a row, and his lowest score this season (other than last weekend’s) sit at 11.3 fantasy points. Second, Atlanta’s defense is a dumpster fire. They’re playing to the level of the Cardinals and the Dolphins by allowing 27.7 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks and they have given up 15 passing touchdowns (second-most) and only intercepted the ball two times. Just in the last two games, Deshaun Watson has passed for 426 yards and five (!) touchdowns against Atlanta while Kyler Murray finished with 340 yards for three scores. To that, it should be added that this game has the highest O/U of the main slate (54 total points) and that both Atlanta and Los Angeles rank inside the top-10 of teams with most plays run on offense. Expect another explosion from Goff this weekend.
