Chase Edmonds off to monster start, likely waiver wire star next week

Chase Edmonds is off to a strong start for the Cardinals. It’s an intriguing development for fantasy football owners.

Chase Edmonds/David Johnson update

David Johnson got the start in Week 7, but he only got one carry while Chase Edmonds ended up with 27 rushing attempts. Following the game, head coach Kliff Kingsbury told the media that Johnson was available in a need-based situation. It remains to be seen what this means for Week 8.

Chase Edmonds fantasy update

Cardinals running back Chase Edmonds is absolutely rolling in Week 7. He now has 17 rushes for 125 yards and three touchdowns against the Giants. He also has a reception for 12 yards, giving him 18 touches. By comparison, David Johnson has still just had the one rush as this is the Chase Edmonds show.

The Arizona Cardinals are off to a strong start in Week 7, and it’s primarily because of backup running back Chase Edmonds. Although David Johnson is active for the game, he’s getting lapped on the field by Edmonds in the first quarter. The Giants lead 14-0, and Edmonds already has two touchdowns and 59 yards on his eight carries. DJ has one carry for two yards through the first two scoring drives.

Johnson entered the game with questions about his ankle, but being active it made sense he would be the go-to guy. However, Edmonds is impressing in a big way. Johnson is the big name, but this would seem to indicate we’ll see more of Edmonds moving forward. The Giants do stink on defense, but it’s impressive play nonetheless.

Fantasy football analysis, Cardinals RB Chase Edmonds

Edmonds is likely to be a popular add on the Week 8 fantasy football waiver wire. The Cardinals travel to face the Saints and then host the 49ers in Week 9. Neither is a great matchup, so any Edmonds addition should come with somewhat limited expectations in the short term. If you have DJ, he’s a must add as a handcuff. If you don’t have Johnson, he’s worth a stash to see how this develops.
