Opening point spreads for Week 8 NFL action

We have limited quality football matchups in Week 8, but still plenty to bet on.

The NFL is wrapping up Week 7, with the Cowboys leading the Eagles on Sunday Night Football as of this publishing. We still have Monday Night Football to play, but in the meantime, opening lines are starting to arrive for Week 7.

The most notable thing about this week? Only one game features a home dog. The Kansas City Chiefs open as a field goal underdog, and that’s only happening because Patrick Mahomes dislocated his knee cap and will not play.

We also get some big matchups that will tell us more about some teams. Kyle Allen (or Cam Newton?) and the Panthers travel to face the unbeaten 49ers. Carolina comes out of its bye having won four straight, but I don’t know if anybody can say with certainty that they’re for real. This matchup could tell us a lot about the underdog Panthers.

Another fascinating matchup will see the Cardinals travel to face the Saints. Drew Brees could potentially play in this game if the Saints plan holds up, but even if he does not, it’s a big one. The Saints have won five straight behind Teddy Bridgewater to improve to 6-1, while the Cardinals have won three straight to improve to 3-3-1. If Arizona hangs in this one, we can consider them a little more for real.

We’ll have plenty more on the point spreads for Week 8, but in the meantime, here is what the opening lines are looking like at DraftKings Sportsbook, with the point total in parenthesis next to the favorite). We won’t have every game right away, but they’ll slowly arrive. The two teams on bye this week are the Cowboys and Ravens.
