To cap off the week, we have what looks like a mismatch between the Jets and Patriots. New England is one of the last remaining undefeated teams and the Jets have a 1-4 record. Despite the difference in records, the Patriots are only favored by 9.5 points. The Jets are coming off their first win of the season and it was an impressive one over the Cowboys. New York was without Sam Darnold for three games due to mono and the team looked completely different when he returned last Sunday. This offers some optimism that the Jets can keep this games competitive.
Julian Edelman ($16,800): First things first, we need to make sure Edelman is starting. He’s listed as questionable to play with a chest injury although I don’t have too much concern. Edelman has been on the injury report with this injury the last few games and it hasn’t appeared to limit him at all. In the last two games, Edelman has gone over 100 yards in both with an average of 25.7 DKFP. Josh Gordon is out of tonight’s game with a knee injury, so the majority of the targets should go to Edelman.
James White ($11,100): Typically, we think of rostering a Patriots’ running back as a leap of faith. In the past, production has been notoriously difficult to predict from their backfields since they always have a few capable guys to give touches to. With all this said, White has been very consistent this season. He’s scored between 11.9 and 13.8 DKFP in all five of his games. White is a core piece of the Pats’ passing attack and he figures to get an extra target or two with Gordon ailing.
Patriots Defense ($7,200): Even though the Jets’ offense looked much better last week with Darnold back under center, it’s difficult to ignore how dominant the Patriots’ defense has been in fantasy. We might even be able to make a real case that the New England D has been the best asset in all of fantasy football thus far. The unit has scored double-digit DKFP in every game and is averaging 20.7 DKFP. The only player in this game with a higher per game fantasy score is Tom Brady. The Patriots are averaging over two takeaways per game and has racked up five touchdowns in six games.
Jamison Crowder ($7,000): Trusting any player on the Jets’ offense is difficult. The Patriots’ defense is ranked first by DVOA including top three in DVOA for pass and run defense. We have to roster at least one player from New York and Crowder is one of the safer options due to volume. In two games with Darnold as the QB, Crowder has drawn 26 targets and brought in 20 receptions. This gives him a secure floor because of the PPR points.
