Kyle Allen to start Week 8, Cam Newton to continue rehab

The Carolina Panthers return from their bye and face a stiff Week 8 test against the San Francisco 49ers. They will not be making any changes at the quarterback position, with Kyle Allen getting his fifth straight start. Allen replaced Cam Newton after the latter suffered a Lisfranc injury to his foot. Head coach Ron Rivera said Newton will continue rehabbing his injury this week, according to NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero.

The Panthers have won four straight games with Allen at the helm. Allen has completed 65.6 percent of his passes for 901 yards and seven touchdowns. He has not thrown any interceptions, but he has six fumbles in just four games.

Fantasy football analysis, Panthers QB Kyle Allen

The 49ers defense is the toughest challenge Allen will have faced to date. They entered the weekend ranked second in overall defensive efficiency, and likely will remain right around there after shutting out Washington in Week 7. Their pass rush gave Case Keenum problems, and Washington avoided the pass in rainy conditions.

Allen is not a good fantasy start this weekend. Even though plenty of people will be without Lamar Jackson or Dak Prescott, there are probably better options available on your fantasy football waiver wire.
