The Atlanta Falcons have a serious question surrounding their franchise quarterback heading into Week 8. Matt Ryan suffered a sprained ankle in Week 7 against the Los Angeles Rams, and head coach Dan Quinn would not offer clarification as to the extent, according to team reporter Kelsey Conway.
Quinn acknowledged different types of sprains, and simply said he hopes it is not long term and the team will be prepared for both situations. If Ryan is unable to go on Sunday, Matt Schaub would get the start. It would mark Schaub’s first start since 2015.
The Falcons return to practice on Wednesday, and we’ll get three injury reports then through Friday. Odds seem decent Ryan will be a DNP on Wednesday, and Thursday and Friday will be the days we get a better handle on things. If Ryan gets in at least one practice, odds seem decent he plays. If he sits out all three, an inactive Week 8 seems a decent bet.
Fantasy football analysis, Falcons QB Matt Ryan
Schaub is a downgrade to the rest of the offense, although that’s not exactly a shocking revelation. He hasn’t started a game since 2015, and in the 3+ seasons since then he’s completed 12 of 16 passes for 101 yards and one touchdown. He might play well, but it’s hard to get too excited about the Falcons fantasy prospects against the Seahawks defense. Julio Jones and Austin Hooper are still must starts, and guys like Devonte Freeman and Calvin Ridley remain valuable, but all take a hit.
