It’s all about finding value when playing NFL slates on DraftKings, especially if it’s low-owned value. It’s also about not throwing a lot of salary into a player who underperforms. Each week, because of injury, personnel moves and that occasional hidden gem that no one sees coming, there are player with low salaries and even lower ownership that help break a slate wide open. Then there are those who are covered in red flags. Here are our picks for the best and worst value quarterbacks on DraftKings entering Week 8:
Best DFS salaries
Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills vs. Philadelphia Eagles ($6,500)
The Bills have to be licking their chops after watching the Cowboys dismantle the Eagles defense on Sunday night. The Eagles looked almost disinterested in their blowout defeat and now they have to face a surging Bills team in Buffalo. Take away the game against the Patriots, and Allen is averaging 20.24 DraftKings points in his five other games. This is a smash spot at home for the fifth-highest priced QB on the slate.
Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints vs. Arizona Cardinals, ($6,300)
Assuming Brees plays this week – keep an eye on his progress in practice this week – he gets about the best possible landing spot for his return. The Cardinals have been gashed by opposing quarterbacks all season and Brees at home is like the Rockies at Coors Field. Points aplenty. Brees is priced down, obviously, because of the injury, but if he’s playing, it’s because he’s healthy and should be his usual self. If it’s Teddy Bridgewater at 5,900 who starts, even better.
Jacoby Brissett, Indianapolis Colts vs. Denver Broncos ($5,600)
Andrew who? Brissett has literally taken the ball from the retired Luck and maybe not run with it, but he’s throwing it just fine. Last week against the Texans, Brissett topped 30 DK points with four TD passes. Now he gets an inept Broncos team at home. There’s no reason to think he can’t put up another monster game. In his last four, Brissett has been over 23 DK points three times.
Ryan Tannehill, Tennessee Titans vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers, ($5,100)
Welcome back, Mr. Tannehill. And isn’t he happy not to be in Miami anymore. With Marcus Mariota benched, Tannehill came in and delivered a gem against the Chargers, completing 23 of 29 passes for 312 yards and two touchdowns. The Buccaneers have allowed massive performances to opposing quarterbacks this season, so Tannehill could easily hit another home run this week. He’s a steal at $5,100.
Worst DFS salaries
Daniel Jones, New York Giants at Detroit Lions, ($5,800)
Reality has hit the rookie very hard. Since his smashing debut against Tampa Bay in Week 3, Jones has four touchdown passes and seven interceptions over his past four games. Throw in a pair of fumbles last week and his turnover-touchdown ratio is over 2-1. It’s supposed to be the other way, Daniel. The Lions on the road is not exactly a get-well proposition, either.
Kyle Allen, Carolina Panthers at San Francisco 49ers ($5,200)
We have nothing but love for Allen, who has been terrific in relief of Cam Newton, and it appears Allen may keep the starting job the rest of the season. And he’s earned it. However, this is the 49ers defense on the road this week, and that is red-flag city. He might survive the game, but he’s probably not going to thrive in it. This is not the week to trust him.
