The New England Patriots shook things up Tuesday morning when they traded a second round pick to the Atlanta Falcons for wide receiver Mohamed Sanu. The move comes one week before the NFL trade deadline, and there’s a good chance Sanu is not the only receiver traded by next Tuesday. Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green is in the final year of his contract, and would provide some value once healthy. Additionally, it makes sense for the Denver Broncos to trade Emmanuel Sanders given how their season is going.
The undefeated San Francisco 49ers could use help at wide receiver, and Jason La Canfora believes they’ll trade for Sanders before the deadline. He claims they were very much in on Sanu and “really want to add a pass catcher.”
The 49ers leading pass catcher by a longshot is tight end George Kittle with 34 receptions for 376 yards. Deebo Samuel leads their wide receivers with 15 receptions, while Marquise Goodwin leads in yards with 181. None of their pass catchers has more than one touchdown.
Fantasy football analysis, Broncos WR Emmanuel Sanders
Sanders would be an instant upgrade to the 49ers wide receiver depth chart. Dante Pettis has been a disappointment, and Samuel is getting used in a variety of roles while figuring things out his rookie year. Richie James Jr. is definitely into a bit of a playmaker, but they need an upgrade.
Sanders has been dealing with a knee issue, but has yet to miss a complete game. He left early in Week 6 after one catch for zero yards, but returned on a short week in Week 7 to catch five passes for 60 yards. He’s a solid fantasy start when healthy, but there will be some questions about how the passing game will work under Kyle Shanahan.
Jimmy Garoppolo has made some big passes, but has not had a huge breakout performance to date. Adding Sanders gives him a sure-handed veteran to make life a little bit easier. Garoppolo is an upgrade over Joe Flacco for Sanders, but I’d argue Sanders is a bigger fantasy upgrade for Garoppolo than the QB is for Sanders.
