Saquon Barkley, Sterling Shepard both limited in first Week 8 practice

The New York Giants kicked off their first practice of Week 8, and running back Saquon Barkley and wide receiver Sterling Shepard were both listed as limited on the injury report. The Giants travel to face the Detroit Lions in Week 8.

Barkley suffered a high ankle sprain in Week 3, and returned last week for his first game action. He rushed 18 times for 72 yards and was targeted five times in the passing game. It makes sense the team would not want to push too hard on him after his first game back.

Shepard remains in the concussion protocol, and it’s a matter of just getting through without symptoms. There’s nothing the team can do to rush it, so we are left to wait for each practice report.

Fantasy football analysis, RB Saquon Barkley, WR Sterling Shepard

Outside of an aggravation in the next two days, Barkley will play on Sunday against the Lions. He’s a must start every week he is active, and faces a potentially big opportunity this week against a Lions defense giving up the third most fantasy points to running backs.

Shepard remains a question mark and barring a full workout Thursday or Friday, is probably going to be questionable and a game-time decision at best. Golden Tate is the team’s No. 1 receiver at this point, coming off a six reception, 80 yard performance in Week 7. The Lions are middle of the pack against wide receivers in fantasy, and Tate is a solid start option in Week 8.

Bennie Fowler and Darius Slayton are the two options behind Tate, but neither has significant fantasy value for now.
