UPDATE: Matt Moore said he has NOT been told he will start on Sunday vs. the Packers, according to Arrowhead Pride.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is not messing around in his attempts to return from a dislocated knee cap. Mahomes injured the knee six days ago and after an MRI revealed no serious ligament damage, the timeline for return was estimated at three to five weeks. Mahomes is pushing for the low end of the timeline. He is throwing the ball on Wednesday of Week 8, and head coach Andy Reid said Mahomes will try and work through the individual period of practice, according to Chiefs beat writer Nate Taylor.
Fantasy football analysis, Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes
Fantasy owners should not expect Mahomes back in Week 8, but it looks like he’ll be back sooner rather than later. The Chiefs bye week is not until Week 12, but at his current pace, Mahomes stands a good chance of getting back into game action before then.
Matt Moore will start in place of Mahomes in the meantime. Moore is a speculative fantasy option at the moment. He is not Mahomes, but given Andy Reid’s strengths as a play-caller, Moore could surprise. This weekend against the Green Bay Packers is probably not that game, but he’ll be interesting to watch for at least one week.
