Matt Ryan injury status update, 10/24 2:02 p.m.
The Falcons had their second practice of Week 8 and Matt Ryan is once again sitting it out, per Ian Rapoport. He sprained his ankle in the fourth quarter of the Falcons Week 7 loss to the Rams. He was seen in a walking boot Sunday afternoon and has been rehabbing since. Matt Schaub took over for him in Week 7 and would get the start if Ryan can’t go this weekend. Schaub is not someone to start in fantasy football unless you’re desperate, and would downgrade most of the Falcons weapons against a middle-of-the-road Seahawks defense.
The Atlanta Falcons hit the practice field to kick off Week 8, and quarterback Matt Ryan did not take part. Ryan sprained his ankle in the fourth quarter of the team’s Week 7 loss to the Los Angeles Rams and did not return. Matt Schaub came on in relief and completed all six of his passes for 65 yards and a touchdown.
Earlier this week when Falcons head coach Dan Quinn announced the injury, he said they would evaluate Ryan as the week went along, and indicated he would not practice to start the week. They have two more practices for him to get out there, but the Falcons have a bye following Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks.
Fantasy football analysis, Falcons QBs Matt Ryan, Matt Schaub
If Ryan gets in a practice on Thursday or Friday, there would seem to be a decent chance he plays on Sunday. But if he does not practice either day, he’ll likely either be ruled out or be a game-time decision and ends up inactive. The bye week suggests fantasy owners should plan for alternatives for Week 8.
The Seahawks defense is not what it once was, and currently ranks in the middle of the pack against the pass. Matt Schaub is not a particularly great start, but if you’re missing Lamar Jackson or Dak Prescott and don’t have a good replacement option, you could do worse. Expectations should be low, and you should consider all other options first, but Schaub has some useful weapons at his disposal even after the Mohamed Sanu trade.
