The New York Giants are not likely to have wide receiver Sterling Shepard when they travel to face the Detroit Lions in Week 8. Shepard was listed as limited on Thursday’s injury report and is not expected to play, according to beat writer Ralph Vacchiano.

Shepard suffered a concussion in Week 5, and while he has been practicing the past couple weeks, he remains limited and in the concussion protocol. Until he is asymptomatic both at rest and after exertion, he cannot be cleared to return to full football activities.

Golden Tate remains the No. 1 receiver, and then Darius Slayton and Bennie Fowler are in a back-and-forth for No. 2 work. Slayton has been the more consistent, but it’s hard to point to either as the clear next man up while Shepard remains sidelined. And with Evan Engram and Saquon Barkley getting healthier, that will be even more targets removed from the equation for Slayton and Fowler.
