This is shaping up to be a good week for value at D/ST on the 12-game main slate on DraftKings, but we also have the mighty Patriots to consider at home. Here are three D/ST plays that standout the most on the Week 8 main slate in no particular order. Salaries via DraftKings.
Patriots ($4,300) vs. CLE
You never want to pay $4,300 for a D/ST play when there are so many value options, but the Patriots have been making ridiculous history on that side of the ball this season. The Pats are now averaging 21.3 DKFP through seven games, and it’s no longer a fluke from the 37 DKFP in Miami. Pats D/ST has now scored 25 or more DKFP in three of its last four games. The preseason hype has completely worn off the Browns. They’re overrated, have a poor offensive line, and are terribly coached. That’s led to a lot of pressure on Baker Mayfield, and a lot of bad decisions. The Patriots will only enhance that.
Panthers ($2,400) at SF
The Panthers D/ST is in a really sneaky good spot, getting overlooked because of the road matchup against the undefeated 49ers. But the Panthers are coming off bye, and scored at least 13 DKFP in four straight games — scoring 62 total DKFP during that span. While the 49ers are a terrific team, the strength is on defense. The offense isn’t explosive enough to really dominate Carolina’s defense, which is a good road value this week.
Chargers ($2,300) at CHI
The Chargers D/ST is at its lowest price point of the season, which doesn’t make sense against Mitch Trubisky and the Bears, even on the road. This offense has been horrible, regardless of QB, but Trubisky hasn’t looked close to an NFL QB this season. The Chargers are slowly getting a bit more healthy, and did score 14 DKFP in a comparable matchup against Denver this season. This is generally the time of year the Chargers finally settle in, an have an ideal offense to shutdown in Week 8.
