Editor’s update 7:24 pm: The Dolphins announced Kalen Ballage as the starter for MNF. It remains to be seen if this will be a timeshare, or something else.
This certainly isn’t the best prime time football game we have ever seen. The Dolphins are searching for their first win of the season and are widely considered one of the worst teams in the history of the league. This has the Steelers favored by 14.5 points even though Pittsburgh has less than inspiring 2-4 record. On the positive side, fantasy football can make any football watchable.
CAPTAIN OBVIOUS
James Conner, ($20,100)
Everything lines up for Conner in this matchup. Jaylen Samuels is officially listed as questionable and it seems unlikely he will play a full workload. Samuels had his knee scoped earlier in the month and wasn’t expected to play until November. The Steelers aren’t really competing for a playoff spot after a poor start to the season, so there’s no reason to rush Samuels back from injury. Without him, Conner has carried the load and is averaging 22.97 DKFP in his last three games. It helps that the Dolphins allow the most DKFP to running backs of any team in football.
CAPTAIN COURAGEOUS
Preston Williams, ($9,300)
Like most weeks, the expectation is that the Dolphins are going to be trailing late. The game script sets up for them to be throwing the ball late to try to get back into the game. Williams is the guy who I think can rack up garbage time points to have a respectable fantasy night. As of late, he’s been the go-to guy in the passing game. Williams has been targeted 33 times in his last four games.
FLEX MEN
Steelers’ Defense, ($8,000)
Any defense playing against the Dolphins has to be considered in play. The Dolphins are ranked 31st in offensive DVOA and are averaging 6.3 points per game. Miami has only scored more than 16 points once all year while giving up plenty of sacks and turning the ball over. The Steelers’ defense is also trending upward as of late. They have scored at least 11 DKFP in four straight games.
Mark Walton, ($6,000)
Rostering Walton has less to do with more talent and more to do with opportunity. The Dolphins are holding Kenyan Drake out of tonight’s game since he is on the trade block, which figures to create more touches and playing time for Walton. Kalen Ballage will also be in the mix, but he’s been miserable this season and his playing time has trended down in recent games. Walton has played a big role than Ballage as of late and has 26 touches in the last two games.
