Joe Flacco injury update 10/31
Broncos quarterback Joe Flacco had his neck looked at, and the bulging disc is expected to sideline him four to six weeks, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. There will be two reviews, but Schefter is reporting the belief is that no surgery will be necessary. Brandon Allen will get the start in the meantime.
The Denver Broncos are struggling in 2019, and things just got a little worse. Head coach Vic Fangio told the media on Monday that quarterback Joe Flacco will not play in Week 9 against the Cleveland Browns due to a neck injury. Brandon Allen will start in his place. Fangio actually said that injured reserve is an option depending on the evaluation, per team reporter Zac Stevens.
Flacco completed 62.5 percent of his passes for 174 yards in the team’s Week 8 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. Meanwhile, Allen has never played an NFL regular season down since first entering the NFL in 2016.
Fantasy football analysis, Broncos QBs Joe Flacco, Brandon Allen
This is a mess, and there is no reason to start either quarterback in fantasy football. I’d say Allen is a downgrade from Flacco for Courtland Sutton, Noah Fant, and others, but that’s hard to say. Allen has never played an NFL down, and Flacco sucks. The Browns are not a good defense, so Sutton, Royce Freeman, and Phillip Lindsay are all worth considering, but it’s hard to like where this situation sits heading into Week 9.
Betting analysis
The Broncos opened as a 1.5-point favorite over the Browns at DraftKings Sportsbook. The line has since come off the board and likely will return with Cleveland as a modest favorite.
