Washington running back Derrius Guice entered the 2019 season with high expectations. He tore his ACL in 2018 and the hope has been that he would secure the starting running back job for the 2019 season.
He did in fact grab the job, starting over an inactive Adrian Peterson in Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles. His DraftKings price was a not ridiculous $4,400 for the opener, and while Washington was viewed as a bad team coming into the season, he was still a potentially solid volume play.
Unfortunately, Guice got hurt in the season opener. He rushed for 18 yards on ten carries and added three receptions for 20 yards before leaving with a knee injury. He had surgery later that week and was placed on injured reserve. He returned to the practice field in late October, and the team formally activated him off IR on Thursday heading into their Week 10 bye. Washington believes he will be able to play in Week 11 when the team returns from their bye to face the New York Jets.
