Let us rejoice! We finally got some prime Todd Gurley action in Week 4 vs. the Buccaneers! Or did we? At first glance, looking at his fantasy football output from Sunday, yes, it was a strong performance from Gurley, finishing with 26 fantasy points in PPR. But not so fast! The All-Pro RB was actually saved by a pair of TDs and 11 targets in the passing game. If we take away those TDs and it’s in standard formats, Gurley only puts up 7.0 fantasy points. Yeah, I know, it’s playing the “what if?” card, but still, this wasn’t a very efficient afternoon for Gurley Man. This was mostly a product of the game script, with the Rams in a shootout with Tampa Bay. The one positive is we saw Gurley regain some goal line form with the two scores.
Fantasy football analysis, Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley
There are a few things to consider this week for Gurley. One, it’s a short week and we know the Rams have said they want to keep Gurley fresh. This could lead to more work — specifically in goal line situations — for backup Malcolm Brown. On the other hand, Gurley has a great matchup vs. the Seahawks, who have struggled vs. elite pass-catching backs the past two weeks. David Johnson went for eight catches and 99 yards through the air last week and Alvin Kamara had nine receptions for 92 yards and a TD the week before. Add in Gurley’s history vs. Seattle and we’ve got a potential recipe for fantasy goodness. In 2018 in two games vs. the Seahawks, Gurley posted 197 yards on 38 carries (5.18 YPC) while adding seven catches on nine targets for 76 yards, scoring four TDs on the ground.
Sure, Gurley may not get the same volume as last season, but both those games had a total of at least 64 points scored in each contest. If we get another high-scoring game with the Rams pulling away or playing catchup, Gurley should at least be involved in the passing game again.
