The New England Patriots surprised the football world on Wednesday when they placed kicker Stephen Gostkowski on injured reserve. The team worked out a host of kickers, and it sounds like free agent Mike Nugent is the winner, according to NFL Network reporter Mike Garafolo.
Nugent kicked for the Raiders for three games in 2018. He converted all six of his field goals and four of five extra points. He went on injured reserve after Week 3, and became a free agent following the season.
Fantasy football analysis, New England Patriots K Mike Nugent
It’s safe to say Nugent is going to be a popular waiver wire pick up for Week 5. The Patriots travel to face a god-awful Washington squad that is bound to give up a ton of points. The question could be whether Washington can control the Patriots in the red zone and create field goal opportunities for Nugent. Frankly, he might only find himself kicking extra points for most of Sunday. Nugent has a strong floor, but his ceiling might not be as high as you’d expect.
