Damien Williams practices for second straight day

Chiefs running back Damien Williams is back at practice, and it raises questions about the Chiefs backfield for Week 5. We break down the fantasy implications.

It would appear that Kansas City Chiefs running back Damien Williams is going to play this Sunday evening against the Indianapolis Colts. Williams practiced on Thursday, marking his second straight day of practice after missing two games with a knee injury. He did not practice at all in Week 3 or 4, but has two full sessions in for Week 5, with Friday left to go. If Williams gets in another full practice, it’s entirely possible he’s not even listed on the final injury report.

In his absence, LeSean McCoy has started at running back, with Darrel Williams getting extensive work alongside. In the Chiefs Week 3 win over Baltimore, McCoy started and had eight rushes for 54 yards and a touchdown, with receptions for 26 yards, while Williams had nine rushes for 62 yards and five receptions for 47 yards. In the Chiefs Week 4 win over Detroit, McCoy had 11 rushes for 56 yards and a touchdown, with two catches for 33 yards, and Williams had eight rushes for 13 yards and two touchdowns, with three receptions for 43 yards.

This is a tough situation to figure out. If Damien plays, I don’t know what it means for McCoy or Darrel. Both have had big moments the past two weeks, with Darrel’s edge coming in the fact that he’s younger. Damien struggled out of the gate, with 34 rushing yards and one touchdown in the first two games. He was a threat in the passing game however, catching nine passes for 87 yards.

If all three are active on Sunday, this is a situation you probably need to stay away from for Week 5. Even what we see this weekend might not tell us enough about what to make of what is likely to be an extensive time share.
