Kyler Murray fantasy football update
In a heck of a dichotomy, while the Cardinals have given up the most fantasy points to the quarterback position, the 49ers have given up the second fewest to the position. ESPN projects Murray to have 15.8 fantasy points tonight. That would be the 15th most based on projections. ESPN projects him with 0.7 points more than 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.
It’s been a rough couple of weeks on the road for rookie quarterback Kyler Murray. He and the Cardinals are coming off a tough loss to the Saints in New Orleans, though they were able to pick up a win in Week 7 against the Giants. Still, both games were unimpressive for Murray, who threw zero TDs with just 324 combined passing yards over the past two games. A few things factored into Murray’s poor fantasy outings though. For one, the Giants couldn’t stop Chase Edmonds and the run game at all, so Arizona playing with a lead had no reason to pass much. Then last week, Edmonds exited early with a hamstring injury, forcing the Cardinals’ offense to become relatively one-dimensional. New Orleans also ate up the clock with the run game and there wasn’t much Murray could do. Now, the rookie will be tasked going up against the league’s best secondary.
Fantasy Football Analysis, Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray
So yeah, that 49ers secondary is preeeeetty, preeeeetty good. San Fran is allowing the fewest passing yards per game (128.7) with five TDs and 10 INTs on the season, not to mention 27 sacks. All of this could spell doom for Murray, who is playing behind a very shaky offensive line (he’s been sacked 26 times this season). The Cardinals won’t have much a running game with both David Johnson and Chase Edmonds sidelined, leaving new-addition Kenyan Drake in line for all the carries essentially.
Really the only thing Murray does have going for him is the game script. We can safely assume the 49ers’ offense will continue to feast on the Cardinals’ porous defense. Murray may be forced to throw the ball around 35-40 times and the Thursday Night Football game notoriously favors the home team on the short week. But if you’ve read any of my start/sit articles, you know I hate putting too many eggs in the TNF basket, and this is a horrible spot for Murray. With how easy it is to stream QBs this season, it’s best to look elsewhere.
