Considering the Patriots odds of going undefeated in 2019

The New England Patriots, Kansas City Chiefs, and San Francisco 49ers all sit unbeaten through the first quarter of the 2019 NFL season, but we know the focus will remain on the Patriots in the quest for perfection. If the Chiefs or 49ers win a few more maybe the conversation changes, but Tom Brady and Bill Belichick are catnip for undefeated enthusiasts.

DraftKings Sportsbook is getting in the mix with a chance to wager on when the Patriots might actually lose a game. They installed odds for Patriots in each remaining game, along with odds for finishing undefeated. It’s interesting to note that their odds of finishing undefeated rank behind only five of their potential remaining games.

The most interesting number has to be that Cleveland in Week 8 at Gillette Stadium has shorter odds than Week 14 against Kansas City at Gillette. The Browns are starting to play better, but it’s an interesting call. And the fact that it appears ahead of road games with Philly and Houston is intriguing.

The value pick is probably the Eagles in Week 11. I’m hesitant on the Texans as a sleeper just because of Bill Belichick’s long run of success against his former assistant coaches. It’s not a sucker bet, but given the history, I can see the sportsbook looking to pick up some potentially easy money.

The big elephant in the room is at home against the Chiefs in Week 14. Those are some long odds and might be worth a wager. But again, when you see odds that seem really wrong, remind yourself that casinos don’t build themselves.
