Editor’s update: Rex Burkhead has been downgraded to OUT for Week 5, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. James White is a must start in PPR leagues, and Michel is a definite start in both standard and PPR leagues. Michel has struggled to get going, but Sunday brings a prime game script matchup against an awful Washington squad.
The New England Patriots face an atrocious Washington team in Week 5, and that bodes well for their ground game. Tom Brady will get his numbers, but if this goes as expected, the Patriots will be looking to run out the clock for much of the second half.
They do have one injury question for their backfield. Rex Burkhead is dealing with a foot injury and after three straight limited practice sessions, the Patriots have listed him as questionable. Burkhead played in Week 4 in spite of the same questionable tag, but he had one reception for seven yards in a defensive struggle with the Buffalo Bills.
Fantasy football analysis, Patriots RBs Rex Burkhead, Sony Michel, James White
The Patriots will have plenty of opportunities to get their running backs involved, but who gets what work could be tricky for fantasy owners. Sony Michel was the workhorse last week against Buffalo, but we’ve seen games where Burkhead gets more carries. James White is the main passing down guy, but Burkhead factors in there significantly as well.
Burkhead seems like a guy who will get less work than the rest after a slow Week 4, but nothing would really be surprising. The safe play is to sit Burkhead, but look at Michel and White in standard and PPR leagues given their respective skills.
