Saquon Barkley has ‘realistic chance’ to be ready for Week 6 TNF

Giants RB Saquon Barkley is making solid progress, and might be back in Week 6 or Week 7. We break down the fantasy football implications for him and backup Wayne Gallman.

Fantasy football owners, enjoy Wayne Gallman while you can. The New York Giants running back will start for a second straight week in place of Saquon Barkley, but the latter is likely to return sooner rather than later from his high ankle sprain.

There was chatter of timelines between one and two months for Barkley’s return, but the Giants stud second year running back is on track to potentially return earlier than that. He was ruled out for Week 5, but, “there is a realistic chance he will be ready to play against the New England Patriots on Thursday night, and at the very least, he will be good for Week 7 against the Arizona Cardinals,” according to NFL Network reporters Kim Jones and Ian Rapoport.

Fantasy football analysis, New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley, Wayne Gallman

Barkley has pushed back on the notion that it would be an extended absence, and is back doing drills with the team’s training staff. He did not take part in individual or team practice drills, so that will be something to watch heading into Week 6. The Giants have a short week before facing the Patriots on Thursday Night Football, so we’ll know early on what the deal is. My guess is Barkley sits one more week to get that extra week of healing and plays in Week 7 against the Arizona Cardinals.

Wayne Gallman gets a step up in competition after a solid effort against Washington in Week 4. The Vikings defense is fairly stout and will give us a better idea of where Gallman and Daniel Jones both stand. Gallman is worth a start, but his starting days are not lasting much longer.
