The Kansas City Chiefs suffered a stunning defeat in Week 5, and Patrick Mahomes’ ankle might have played a part in it. Mahomes injured the ankle during the game and had it taped up at one point. This week, Mahomes told the media the ankle is not perfect, but is feeling pretty good as he heads into practice, per Chiefs reporter Rob Collins.
Mahomes threw for 321 yards and a touchdown, but it felt like it bit more effort than we’ve grown accustomed to from the superstar. It says something about our expectations that those numbers are a down performance, but there was a certain struggle to it in the Week 5 loss.
Fantasy football analysis, Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes
Mahomes will likely get a mention on the Chiefs injury report, but we know he will play on Sunday against the Houston Texans. This is a solid matchup for Mahomes, with Houston ranked in the middle of the pack in passing defense efficiency and eighth worst in fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks.
The ankle will rightfully remain a concern given how sudden his movements can be, but for the time being, he remains a must start. I would not yet downgrade any of his skill position players either. But we’ll keep an eye out to see if he is slowed by the ankle or aggravates it this week.
