If Marcus Mariota wasn’t already panicking about his long-term future before Week 9, he definitely should after Ryan Tannehill played his best game in years. Tannehill was given the starting role a few weeks back and he has excelled ever since, so Mariota’s new contract could see him move far from Tennessee and who knows if he will be a no. 1 quarterback in his next team next season. But this is about Tannehill, and although he couldn’t get his third consecutive win against Carolina, he still had a good game passing for 331 yards on 27 completions, throwing for a touchdown, but getting picked a couple of times. That last bit wasn’t much of a problem for his fantasy outcome, though, as he made up for it scoring another touchdown on the ground and rushing for an extra 38 yards.
From Week 7 on, Tannehill has completed 70.3% of his passes (71 of 101), has thrown six touchdowns and has been intercepted three times. In just three games he has one fewer score than Mariota in double the games (he actually has the same, with six passing and one rushing). Tannehill’s fantasy points average for the last three games is up to 23.3, sixth in the league among quarterbacks to have started three matches in the last three weeks. Tennessee is probably going nowhere, but Tannehill has been able to revitalize the team a bit since he replaced Mariota.
Fantasy Football Analysis, Tennessee Titans QB Ryan Tannehill
Although Ryan Tannehill is not a high-upside quarterback by any means, he’s produced solid numbers in his three starts this season, passing for more than 300 yards in two of them and falling just short of 200 (193) in the other one. This weekend he will host the Chiefs in what should be a good matchup in fantasy. Patrick Mahomes might be back at the starting role for Kansas City, which means Tannehill will need to put on a good passing performance to try and catch up with the Chiefs all game long. That means the volume should be there and it will all come down to the Titans receivers to make or break Tannehill’s performance.
Kansas City has surrendered the 11th-most passing yards so far this season and is also ranked 11th in most fantasy points per game given to opposing quarterbacks. Just in the last couple of weeks, they have allowed Aaron Rodgers and Kirk Cousins to throw for three touchdowns and no interceptions each for fantasy scores of 30.15 and 23.50 points respectively. Tannehill should benefit from a favorable game script this weekend and take advantage of what profiles as a high-scoring game—the total is at 48 points, the fourth-highest of the week. That makes Tannehill a good streaming option at quarterback in a weekend full of byes.
