Giants HC: Saquon Barkley suffered some kind of injury in Week 10, getting x-rays

The Giants running back had an atrocious game, so maybe this is providing some cover.

New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley had a miserable game in Week 10 against the New York Jets. He rushed the ball 13 times for a grand total of one yard rushing. He had five receptions for 30 yards, but when you average less than one tenth of a yard per rushing attempt, something has gone really wrong.

Head coach Pat Shurmur said after the game that Barkley got “banged up” during the game, per beat writer Ralph Vacchiano. He did not offer any more details, but Barkley was spotted going into the x-ray room after the game.

Fantasy football analysis: Giants RB Saquon Barkley

This reads more like hurt not injured. He was playing near the end of the game, so it would seem like he was not necessarily injured. This could also be Shurmur offering some cover for what was a miserable day for Barkley. But we’ll see what the x-ray reveals.

If Barkley did suffer an injury, Wayne Gallman would be the next guy up. It’s worth noting the Giants have a bye in Week 11, so it gives Barkley some time to recover. If Barkley remained banged up the following week after the team’s bye, one concern is that Gallman gets more work to spell Barkley. I don’t expect that quite yet, but it will be something to track over the next couple weeks.
