Shams also adds that Gordon and the Rockets are gathering more information before making a decision on surgery, but all signs point to an extended absence. It would likely just be a clean-up procedure, but it’s still a big hit for the Rockets.
Let’s break down how the injury will impact Houston’s lineup.
Fantasy Basketball Analysis, Houston Rockets SG Eric Gordon
On the surface, this doesn’t impact superstars James Harden and Russell Westbrook all that much. Sure, Gordon’s presence helped stretch the court a bit and keep defenses honest, which helps with penetration for Harden and Russ. But overall it just means more shots for both of them, which is never bad in fantasy basketball.
The bigger issue for the Rockets is depth. They already ran a short bench and now it’s even shorter, so guys are going to be tasked with playing heavier minutes than usual. Danuel House Jr. would be a guy to step up, but he’s doubtful for Wednesday vs. the Clippers due to a back injury.
So chances are Austin Rivers, Thabo Sefolosha and Ben McLemore will pick up the slack for Gordon at SG. Thabo has very little fantasy value as a defensive specialist. Rivers has proved to be a decent scorer when given more usage, so he’ll be an interesting value target tomorrow. McLemore is less proven, but will probably garner less ownership on tomorrow’s slate. P.J. Tucker should also get more looks on the perimeter, so keep an eye on his price.
The Rockets have a tough stretch, so it’ll be interesting to see how the lines shake out on them heading into tomorrow and moving forward. Getting in early on Harden’s point total may be a wise decision.
