Anthony Davis Status Update

The Lakers are officially listing Anthony Davis as doubtful for tonight’s game vs. the Warriors.

Yahoo Sports’ Chris B. Haynes is reporting that Anthony Davis (ribs, shoulder) has been ruled out for tonight’s game vs. the Warriors. This isn’t really surprising given the previous reports and LA being on the second night of a back-to-back.

At this point, AD appears to be day-to-day, so for now, we can focus on the injuries impact for tonight’s slate. It opens up a lot of value on the Lakers and makes LeBron James a very appealing play in all formats.

Keep an eye on the lines and spreads on DK Sportsbook. The ML has already been pushed down along with the O/U. This news dropping could have a similar impact.

Late last night, Lakers beat reporter Brad Turner dropped that Anthony Davis went for X-rays on his ribs and they came back negative, which is a great sign.

The bad news is this is now the second injury Davis is dealing with along with his ailing shoulder, and that there’s a good chance AD is held out of tonight’s matchup vs. the Warriors. Chances are LA would have been cautious anyway, holding Davis out on the second of a back-to-back.

Let’s look at the potential lineup impact his absence would have for the Lakers

Fantasy Basketball Analysis, Los Angeles Lakers PF/C Anthony Davis

Let’s do a quick recap on Tuesday’s win over the Suns. Davis played through both injuries — albeit without a quick trip to the locker room for nostalgia — finishing with 24 points, 12 rebounds and four assists for 52.5 DraftKings fantasy points. He saw his usual workload in a competitive game, logging 38 minutes, which in hindsight probably wasn’t a great idea.

If AD should sit out, Kyle Kuzma stands to benefit the most after another strong performance Tuesday. Kuz finished with 31 fantasy points on 23 points with four boards. He’s slowly getting back to his normal allotment of minutes (around 25 per game) and for whatever reason is priced down to $4,100, $500 less than last night. This is perplexing given the matchup, but who am I to complain about a free square in your lineup on DK.

We could also see the Lakers roll out the old bones of Dwight Howard ($4,300) and JaVale McGee ($3,700) a bit more if AD is to sit. Oh yeah, and there’s that guy named LeBron James too! At $10,700 in a game that likely won’t be competitive, LeBron isn’t too appealing outside of GPPs, but it’ll be his LakeShow to run tonight. I guess also be aware that James could rest on the second of a B2B, but that hasn’t really been the case so far this season.

The line right now for Lakers-Dubs is at -11 and that’s with the assumption AD is probably playing. If AD is out, Golden State is depleted, but you’ve got a revenge spot for D’Angelo Russell and Draymond Green always relishes a chance to play The King. Would I pick the Dubs straight up? Probably not. Is the spread wide right now? Yeah.
