Similar to the Anthony Davis situation, we sort of had a feeling Joel Embiid would be ruled out for tonight. Thankfully the news came early on in the day rather than 15 seconds before lock, per usual.

The Sixers announced Embiid will rest on the second night of a back-to-back after Philly squeaked out a victory over the Cavaliers at home last night.

Let’s take a look at how the big man’s absence from tonight’s lineup will affect the slate.

Fantasy Basketball Analysis, Philadelphia 76ers C Joel Embiid

First, I must say it’s nice getting this news so early. We’ve got about 5 and a half hours to figure out what to do with Embiid out. The first thought is look to suppressed prices on PF/C Al Horford ($5,900 and Ben Simmons ($6,800) on DraftKings. Simmons came back from a shoulder injury last night and wasn’t restricted, playing 35 minutes while posting 15 points, five rebounds and six assists for 36.25 FPTS. Horford was the one resting last night, so he should be fresh for this matchup.

Other players to consider are Tobias Harris ($6,700) and Mike Scott ($3,300). Harris struggled last night vs. Cleveland, shooting 4-of-17 from the field. But is in a spot to bounce back tonight with more usage. Scott played about 19 minutes last night with Horford out, so we could see Big Al shift over to center for the night with Scott operating as the power forward.

There’s been a lot of movement in the Magic’s favor on DK Sportsbook, so keep an eye on things there. A lot of the public is leaning Orlando, but just because Embiid is out doesn’t mean the Sixers are in trouble. They’re still a much better team and the spread could turn way in their favor.
