Washington has been a dumpster fire this season, and it’s no surprise the New York Jets thumped them 34-17. There was one positive aspect to the loss. Running back Derrius Guice made his return from a Week 1 torn meniscus and scored a touchdown. He had seven rushes for 24 yards and a 45-yard touchdown reception. He came up just short of a second touchdown on a goal line plunge.
Those aren’t great numbers, but for Washington, it’s a big deal. It’s the first time since Week 6 Washington has found the end zone this season! The Washington Nationals won the NLCS and World Series in the time it took the football team to find the end zone once again. Washington eventually added a second touchdown in garbage time on a Dwayne Haskins pass to Jeremy Sprinkle.
Adrian Peterson got the start for Washington and finished with nine rushes for 25 yards. The team could not get much of anything going on the ground or through the air, but Guice did finish with 13.9 DKFP to Peterson’s five. Guice benefited from the big touchdown reception, but he was slightly more effective on the ground. Maybe that earns him a bigger role in Week 12 against the Detroit Lions.
