UPDATE: Damian Lillard (back) has been ruled out for tonight’s game vs. the Pelicans. Anfernee Simons ($4,400) becomes another viable value play on the slate. Brandon Ingram (knee) and Frank Jackson (knee) are expected to play.
UPDATE: Carmelo Anthony is reportedly starting in his Trail Blazers debut tonight vs. the Pelicans.
A four-game NBA slate tonight means we’re going to condense things a bit. Mostly because we have fewer options, but also because there aren’t too many spots for DFS value plays given the limited injuries. We’ll be tracking a few injuries for the New Orleans Pelicans, but other than that status quo. Let’s get into some picks.
Point Guard
Ky Bowman, GSW at MEM, $4,700 — I already wrote up Alec Burks in my cash-game options, so it’s only fitting that I include Bowman here. Really I like both plays in both formats on a short slate, but Bowman has more GPP appeal with less projected ownership and a lowered price. He’s coming off 19 points vs. the Pelicans and has another good matchup vs. the Grizzlies tonight.
Rajon Rondo, LAL vs. OKC, $4,500 — Rondo stands out as a value until his price goes up and I’m going to be on him because of his ceiling. We know he doesn’t need to get heavy minutes to return value given his category coverage. With OKC on the second of a back-to-back, I can see LA running away with this one, so Rondo could see garbage minutes.
Shooting Guard
Rodney Hood, POR at NOP, $4,800 — I’m going to ride the Rodney Hood train going anywhere. Ideally I should have faded him last night and looked to attack the Pelicans tonight. NOLA should be shorthanded again and even if Carmelo Anthony debuts for the Blazers, Hood will still start and see more minutes.
Dillon Brooks, MEM vs. GSW, $4,500 — Another name that burned me previously, Brooks laid an egg vs. the Nuggets on Sunday after I told you to scoop him up off waivers. Well, he should bounce back in a matchup vs. the Warriors, who are allowing opponents to shoot a league-high 39.1% from distance this season.
Small Forward
E’Twaun Moore, NOP vs. POR, $4,600 — I think you’ve got to attack the Pelicans value hard and fast tonight, and Moore has played well over this recent stretch. With NOLA depleted, Moore has double-digit points in each of the past four games, playing over 24 minutes in each contest. There should be plenty of scoring to go around in this matchup tonight.
Nassir Little, POR at NOP, $4,500 — Again, attack this game! Little is turning a corner a bit in his rookie season with big minutes in back-to-back games. I don’t think Melo will cut into Little’s playing time quite yet, so this seems like a good spot to get him in. He’s averaging around 30 minutes the past two games.
Power Forward
Nicolo Melli, NOP vs. POR, $4,400 — Surprise, surprise, we’re back on Pelicans-Trail Blazers... Melli is 8-of-14 from distance in the past two games and we already know Derrick Favors has been ruled out. If Brandon Ingram and/or Jahlil Okafor sits, Melli should see increased minutes and usage in a great matchup.
Cameron Johnson, PHX at SAC, $3,700 — the Suns may be shorthanded a bit if Ricky Rubio (back) is out again, so the rotation grows thin. This would open up some minutes for Johnson, who has returned value in five straight games. He’s playing around 20+ minutes per game off the bench and contributing nicely in points and boards.
Center
Willie Cauley-Stein, GSW at MEM, $5,000 — Holy hell I lied, there’s a ton of value on this short slate, good lord. WCS stands out having played at least 22 minutes with at least 21 fantasy points in each of the past six games for the Warriors. The Dubs really only have Draymond Green and Cauley-Stein as solid options in the front court, and this game should be fast-paced.
Steven Adams, OKC at LAL, $4,900 — Adams is starting to look more like his old self, though the double-doubles haven’t come yet. Maybe he’s limited a bit on the second of a B2B, but at this price we don’t need much to hit value. It’s worth noting Adams has distributed the ball well lately with 10 assists over the past two games.
UPDATE: Damian Lillard (back) has been ruled out for tonight’s game vs. the Pelicans. Anfernee Simons ($4,400) becomes another viable value play on the slate.
