How to handle Carmelo Anthony’s point total for his Trail Blazers’ debut

Veteran forward has O/U set at 9.5 for his first game of the season Tuesday vs. the Pelicans. We break down if you should consider the bet on DraftKings Sportsbook.

UPDATE: Carmelo Anthony will start in his Trail Blazers debut tonight vs. the Pelicans, per Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated. So DraftKings Sportsbook still has Melo’s O/U at 9.5 but the line is basically even at -110. If you got it in while it was at +100 then good on you, but being as he’ll start and play around 20 minutes, eclipsing 9.5 points seems likely. Still less value though.

UPDATE: This coming from Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated, but we now that Carmelo Anthony is expected to play around 20 minutes in his Trail Blazers’ debut tonight vs. the Pelicans.

So with this news, DraftKings Sportsbook has taken down the point total on Anthony, which was originally at 9.5 points. If he sees around 20 minutes, it’s not out of the realm of possibility he reaches double-digit points given Damian Lillard is sidelined.

It didn’t take long for our good friends over at DraftKings Sportsbook to get in on the Carmelo Anthony action for tonight’s four-game slate. With Anthony slated to make his Portland Trail Blazers’ debut vs. the New Orleans Pelicans, DK already has his point total posted for you to place bets on.

Should you consider betting Carmelo Anthony’s point total in debut?

The simple answer is no. Right now we don’t even know if he’s actually going to play. We really just know that he’s available to play. Sure, chances are he comes off the bench and gets some playing time, but until we get some more information from coach Terry Stotts, it seems like betting the OVER wouldn’t be wise. But I mean, at +100, the under 9.5 seems like an easy spot to cash in on.

Melo would likely have to shake off some rust and again, we don’t know just how much playing time he’ll actually get. I’ve mentioned this in my DFS and season-long fantasy advice, to wait and see on Melo before making any rash decisions. Of course, it’s your money, not mine.

UPDATE: Damian Lillard (back) has been ruled out for tonight’s game vs. the Pelicans.
