Damian Lillard ruled out of Tuesday’s game vs. the Pelicans

Trail Blazers All-Star won’t play tonight in New Orleans. We break down the fantasy basketball and betting implications.

The Trail Blazers will be without their best player, Damian Lillard, when they play the Pelicans on Tuesday. This is huge news on a four-game slate, with Lillard dealing with back spasms that will hold him out of a great matchup in New Orleans. Let’s get into how this will impact the four-game NBA slate on DraftKings and from a betting perspective.

Fantasy Basketball Analysis, Portland Trail Blazers PG Damian Lillard

This impacts the slate immensely. With no Lillard, C.J. McCollum ($7,800) becomes pretty much a lock in both cash games and GPPs on DraftKings. He’s already entering this game hot and now he’ll be the focal point of the offense against one of the worst defenses in the NBA.

Hassan Whiteside ($6,300) and Rodney Hood ($4,800) would appear to be the next players up in terms of who benefits. Whiteside would get more offensive touches and Hood should see more shots and minutes in the back court alongside McCollum. As far as value, Anfernee Simons ($4,400) would become the backup PG off the bench — actually he’d probably draw the start in place of Dame. Simons is also a great value play and would be viable in cash games if he’s starting. I guess this may make Carmelo Anthony ($3,900) a bit more viable in DFS, though we still don’t know how much he’ll play.

How should you approach betting Blazers vs. Pelicans?

Right now, the lines on DK Sportsbook are obviously down. I imagine the line may swing a bit in favor of the Pelicans at home, but we also don’t know how healthy they’ll be tonight. If NOLA gets Ingram and Ball back, I’d say the OVER would still be a decent bet and the Pelicans would be stronger against the spread or moneyline.
