Getting good value on D/ST plays isn’t just about the points-per-dollar, but opening up room for the plays you want in the rest of your lineup. That’s why I usually pay down for D/ST options, and there’s no shortage of targets to do so with this week. Salaries via DraftKings.
Panthers ($2,800) vs. TEN
Carolina’s coming off a tough week, but it’s actually pretty impressive the defense could allow 51 points and still score 3.0 DKFP. Leading up to Week 8, the Panthers D/ST had scored 13 or more DKFP in four straight games, but maintained a reasonable salary. Tennessee probably has improved on offense with Ryan Tannehill, but not significantly enough to consider not targeted a D/ST play against it.
Steelers ($2,400) vs. IND
I can’t figure out why this defense is so cheap. It’s at home, facing an offense that will be without its WR1 in T.Y. Hilton (calf). But regardless, this defense has scored 11 or more DKFP in five straight games, and averages 12.5 DKFP in home games this season. It’s been good forcing turnovers and getting to the QB this season, and I expect both to come into play this week. I’d roster the Steelers D/ST over most of the options for $3,000 or more.
Washington ($1,800) at BUF
I love paying down to these “bottom of the barrel” options. The perception on Washington’s team as a whole factors into how the public sees the defense, but the reality is that it’s not a bad unit. It’s scored 5.0 or more DKFP in six consecutive games, and will face a Bill’s offense that shouldn’t scare anyone away. The Eagles have one of the worst secondaries in football, and still scored 12 DKFP in Buffalo last week.
