UPDATE: Jeff Driskel is expected to sit on Thursday because of a hamstring injury and David Blough will start in his place. This downgrades all skill position players on the Lions roster due to the uncertainty surrounding Blough. Golladay and Jones are worth starting because they’re quality receivers regardless of quarterback, but their ceiling takes a bit of a hit.
Since Jeff Driskel took over for injured Matthew Stafford in Week 10, Kenny Golladay has averaged 2.7 receptions on six targets for 50.7 yards and totaled one touchdown in three games. His average in the eight previous games was 4.4-of-7.8 for 80 yards with seven total touchdowns. Marvin Jones’ numbers over the last three have been 4.7-of-7.3 for 55.3 yards and two total touchdowns. Before that, Jones was at 5.2-of-7 for 68 yards and six total touchdowns.
Jones hasn’t seen as big a dip in work and production as Golladay but remains inconsistent with Driskel under center. Danny Amendola has stayed consistently mediocre, but no longer has the upside he had with Stafford, as he’s averaged 3.7 receptions for 32.3 yards with Driskel.
Fantasy football analysis: Detroit Lions WRs Kenny Golladay, Marvin Jones, Danny Amendola
For Turkey Day, the Lions host the Bears, who they met just three games ago on Driskel’s first start. In that matchup, he threw for 269 yards and hit Golladay for a deep touchdown. Driskel also threw the ball 46 times, by far his highest total to date. Both Jones (5-77) and Golladay (3-57-1) had useful fantasy days, but the tremendous number of pass attempts helped.
This game is predicted to be close with the Bears favored by -1. The Lions didn’t have Bo Scarbrough the last time they met, and Scarbrough ran the ball 18 times in a close loss last week while Driskel threw it 33 times, with one touchdown to three interceptions. If this game is tight, there’s a good chance they don’t let Driskel throw it 46 times as he did against the Bears. That will make both riskier, but they’re probably too good to sit unless you are flush with wide receiver talent.
Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation
Sit Danny Amendola.
Start Golladay and Jones
