The Carolina Panthers announced on Tuesday that they have placed quarterback Cam Newton on injured reserve with his foot injury. Kyle Allen will remain the team’s starting quarterback the rest of the season.

Newton injured his foot in the preseason and then aggravated the injury in Week 2. It was described as a Lisfranc injury, and Newton has been sidelined ever since. He was not seeing progress of late and went to Green Bay for a second opinion. It would appear he did not get the news he was hoping for, and now his season is done.

The big question now is whether or not the Panthers keep Newton for 2020. He is due $18.6 million in non-guaranteed base salary and is coming off a second straight season of significant injury issues. Will the Panthers keep him and hope for good health, or will they move on?
