Jacoby Brissett returns to practice, but Week 10 status uncertain [UPDATE]

Brian Hoyer is looking like a solid fantasy football waiver wire add in Week 10. We break down the latest surrounding Jacoby Brissett’s knee injury.

Jacoby Brissett injury status update, 1:13 p.m.

Colts head coach Frank Reich announced that QB Jacoby Brissett will get limited practice reps on Wednesday, according to beat writer Stephen Holder. Brissett sprained his MCL on Sunday, so this is a pretty quick turnaround to be back at practice. His status remains uncertain for Sunday, but this is notable.

The Indianapolis Colts received a huge scare in Week 9 when quarterback Jacoby Brissett suffered a knee injury in the second quarter against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Left guard Quenton Nelson fell into Brissett’s knee and the QB was unable to return to the game. Brian Hoyer replaced him and threw for three touchdowns in a 26-24 loss.

Head coach Frank Reich said on Monday that the MRI revealed it was a basic MCL sprain and not much serious. On Tuesday, Brissett told the media he was feeling “significantly better than he did two days earlier, but he [was] not yet ready to confirm he’ll practice Wednesday,” according to team reporter George Bremer.

The Colts return to practice on Wednesday to begin preparations for their Week 10 matchup with the Miami Dolphins. It’d be a surprise if he practiced on Wednesday, and considering it’s an MCL sprain, it would be surprising if he played in Week 10.

Fantasy football waiver wire analysis: QB Brian Hoyer

The Dolphins are coming off their first win, but they’re still a very bad football team. They’ve given up the fifth most fantasy points to quarterbacks, and even with T.Y. Hilton out and Parris Campbell now sidelined, there’s some short term value in adding Hoyer off your waiver wire.

The Colts face the Dolphins this week, then the Jaguars and Texans in subsequent weeks. That’s a nice little run if Brissett misses some time. An MCL sprain often means multiple weeks on the sideline, so Hoyer should have some short term value.
