How to handle Damien Williams’ injury in Week 13 fantasy football

Williams is out this week. Here’s how to approach the Chiefs’ running back situation without him.

The Kansas City Chiefs have ruled out Damien Williams this week, setting up a potential shared-time situation for LeSean McCoy and Darrel Williams.

Damien Williams got hurt early in the Chiefs’ last game, in Week 11, against the Chargers. He exited in the second quarter with a rib injury, and missed practice all week, before being ruled out on Friday for this week’s home game against the Oakland Raiders.

That leaves one of those always dicey split running back situations we have to at least try and interpret this week. However, one of those players taking up the workload in Damien Williams’ absence is a better bet.

The last time Damien Williams was out of action, in Weeks 3 and 4, the Chiefs turned to McCoy and Darrel Williams. It was a near 50-50 split in terms of workload, and both players scored twice in that two-game stretch. However, Darrel Williams got more work in the passing game in those two weeks, giving him a slight edge.

In KC’s last game, after Damien Williams’ early departure, it was Darrel Williams who came away with a slight advantage in workload over McCoy.

In other words, Darrel Williams is a better play this week, at least as a second running back or a flex option.
