The Panthers came into their matchup with Washington as decided 10-point favorites, but Washington’s running game had other things in mind. Both Derrius Guice and Adrian Peterson topped 100 yards and scored three touchdowns on their way to a 29-21 victory.
Kyle Allen got the Panthers up early with two touchdown passes to Curtis Samuel and D.J. Moore to make it 14-0, but it was all Washington after that. They took the lead midway through the fourth quarter on a Dustin Hopkins field goal, to make it 15-14 and then they ran the ball and ran it some more.
Washington ran the ball 29 times for 249 yards and three touchdowns while Dwayne Haskins completed 13-of-25 passes for 147 yards and was sacked five times. But he did hold onto the ball and threw zero interceptions, which was what was needed from him this week.
The Panthers did not go gentle into that good night, as Kyle Allen ran in a 17-yard touchdown with under two-minutes remaining and then, amazingly they recover the onsides kick. Allen then drove them to the three-yard line with 30 seconds remaining and lost his mind.
