UPDATE
Jameis Winston returned to a full practice on Friday and looks ready to go in a good matchup against the Lions.
Daniel Jones remains out, so Eli Manning gets a start against the Dolphins.
Matthew Stafford remains out. David Blough will get another start in a good matchup with the Buccaneers but without Marvin Jones.
Patrick Mahomes’ bruised hand got better during the week but there’s a chance he’s not at 100 percent against Denver.
Last week brought us a huge fantasy quarterback game as Drew Brees and Jimmy Garoppolo traded touchdown passes. Of course, many, including myself, downgraded both due to their matchup. The NFL is a fickle game for prognostication but that’s what makes it fun, I guess!
This week we’ll do our best to suss out the next Garoppolo-Brees type fantasy explosion.
Injury/Status Report
Jameis Winston has a small fracture in his throwing hand but the team is optimistic he’ll be able to play through the injury.
Lamar Jackson was limited to start the week with a quad injury. He should be fine but a short week and going against an inferior opponent could end up limiting his rushing workload.
Patrick Mahomes has a badly bruised hand but will be able to play against Denver this week.
Tom Brady appears to have aggravated his elbow that has been bothering him. He hasn’t been the Tom Terrific of old and might not be the automatic start he should be against a weak Bengals defense.
Daniel Jones will be out again, giving Eli Manning a good matchup against the Dolphins.
QB Ranking Tiers
Tier 1
Lamar Jackson is in a smash spot on Thursday night as long as he gets practices in and looks healthy to go.
The Titans are hurting in their secondary which should help Deshaun Watson put up strong numbers in a battle for the division lead.
As long as Jameis Winston is cleared to play, he gets a nice matchup against the Lions.
Tier 2
Drew Brees hadn’t been putting up big numbers since returning from his thumb injury but he went off against a stout 49ers defense last week and gets a Colts defense at home who Winston just set a personal best yardage mark against.
Dak Prescott plays better at home usually and the Cowboys are +1 underdogs to the Rams in the second highest over/under matchup of the week. I like his chance to put together good numbers.
QB Streamers
Arizona’s pace and bad pass defense push about any quarterback into streamer potential. This week it’s Baker Mayfield.
Jimmy Garoppolo continues to show he has the ability to put up huge numbers and this week he takes on the Falcons at home.
