The Tampa Bay Buccaneers expect to have quarterback Jameis Winston starting on Sunday against the Detroit Lions in spite of a hairline fracture in his throwing thumb, according to ESPN’s Jenna Laine. He was at practice going through quarterback drills, but was not gripping a football.
Head coach Bruce Arians said on Wednesday that Winston is day-to-day and they’re seeing how he progresses through the week. He’s wearing a brace on his thumb, but the team fully expects him to be available when Sunday arrives. In the meantime, Ryan Griffin is getting the bulk of the throwing reps in practice.
Fantasy football analysis: Bucs QB Jameis Winston
Winston is the fifth-ranked quarterback in fantasy football this season. The thumb is concerning, but he fared pretty well with the injury last week. In the first half, he completed 71 percent of his passes for 277 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. In the second half, he completed 76 percent of his passes for 179 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.
This week he faces a bad Lions defense. He’s worth starting in most fantasy formats even coming off the injury.
